Amber Trollbeads are made from a rough fossilized Amber resin which is collected from ancient forests, formed over time by the plant resin expelled by trees. The Amber is collected and then ready to be used to make the beads.
The Amber for the beads come in different bags which have been sorted by color and each piece of stone is taken and roughly shaped by hand on a grinding wheel. Then a tiny hole is drilled into the center of the bead which is where it will sit onto the chain. Then the bead is held by that hole and shaped some more into the bead that we know and love today. At this point the beads aren't that round or smoothe so the bead is taken by hand onto a special polishing machine and evened out & polished, removing any uneven parts from the bead. Lastly any patterns required are added to the beads and the final polishing stage completed to reveal shiny new Amber Trollbeads. Because of the varying colors of the Amber that's collected, there are many kinds of Amber Trollbead, from very dark Amber to extremely light colored Amber. In fact, many of the Amber's are so different that you can even make a full Trollbead bracelet using nothing but Amber beads. The beads vary in style, some having additional patterns and some plain. If you're making a pure Amber bracelet, it's good to have a range of shades and styles on that bracelet so to make it stand out as much as possible.
